Eileen June Hoffman
1932 ~ 2020
Surrounded by the love of her family, Eileen June Hoffman passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, August 28, 2020, at the age of 88 years. She will be cherished in the hearts of her loving husband, Roy; daughters, Brenda (Patrick) Quinlan, Lene (Wally) Sawchuk; and sons, Keith, Neil and Mark. Eileen will be missed by her brother, Larry (Donna) Martin; sisters-in-law, Margaret Reed and Joy Martin, best friend, Joanne Reiger as well as many nieces and nephews who adored her. She was predeceased by her parents, Levi and Lydia Martin; brothers, Ivan, Victor, Al and Lloyd; sisters, Agnes Egler and Delores Green. Eileen was born in Swift Current, SK. and spent her childhood on the farm in Horsham, SK. At the age of 16 years Eileen moved to Saskatoon and worked for Quaker Oats. She moved to Medicine Hat in 1956, and met the love of her life, Roy whom she married in 1959. Eileen was famously known as “the Cat Lady”. Her passions were family, friends and felines. She became an avid cat collector with family and friends enthusiastically searching the globe to find a unique cat to add to her collection. Eileen and the collection became so well known, people would drop in just for the opportunity to see it. Eventually, the Medicine Hat News and Our Canada magazine approached Eileen and published articles in their media. Eileen and Roy were avid gardeners and won second prize in the Annual Garden Tour. They won a beautiful “cat” fountain, thus adding to the collection. She thrived on having guests and kept everyone well fed with her marvelous cooking and baking. Over the years, Eileen never let the grass grow under her feet taking a class in cake decorating and turning her talent into a business. Her black forest cake was a huge success and Eileen was busy making special event cakes. She also learned Cut & Pierce lampshade art and gave these beautiful treasures to family and friends to be cherished forever. Eileen was well read and kept herself current in all the happenings in Hollywood. Her favorite star was Marilyn Monroe and she never missed an episode of the Young & The Restless. Embroidery became a another favorite pastime and Eileen stepped out of her comfort zone to make concrete stepping stones. She will be missed by all who knew her; always remembered and forever loved. Special thanks to the staff of 5 West for the kindness and to Dr. Ciubotaru for his care of Eileen during the last 15 years.
