Page & Whisker turns to Frankenstein for latest fundraiser
The Page & Whisker will be paying homage to a classic female gothic fiction novelist during their latest fundraising efforts for APARC and the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter.
The Page & Whisker will be honouring the author Mary Shelley today ( Sunday) , an English novelist who most notably penned the story Frankenstein back in 1818 when she was only 20 years old.
“Mary Shelley was a female author, really ahead of her time during a time when society wasn’t very happy with women publishing books and being more than a housewife in the kitchen back in the 1700’s so the fact that she was into politics, and giving money to women who society normally frowned upon, and she was actually publishing books and being an independent individual, and making her own money was very impressive,” manager of Page and Whisker Dana Kerr said.
The fundraiser will consist of a bottle drive which will run from 10 a.m to 4p.m, with book sales extending to 6 p.m. Proceeds from will be going towards APARC and $1.00 from every book sold, and $5.00 from custom merchandise sold will be going to the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter.
