New LED lighting at FLC’s Cenovus Arena

Aug 4, 2020 | 1:56 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Brighter days are here for the Cenovus Arena inside the Family Leisure Centre.

Fifty LED lighting high bay fixtures and three LED lighting wall packs have been installed over the ice and the stands.

“Players, parents and even our staff have noticed the difference the LED lighting makes,” said Stephane Rainville, superintendent, Recreation Facility Operations. “Plays happening on the ice will no longer get lost in the shadows.”

A recent lighting assessment report for the Family Leisure Centre provided cost-saving recommendations, as well as feedback on how to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reads a City of Medicine Hat release.

A grant program available through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre funded more than $26,000 towards the project, about 70 per cent of the total cost. The city contributed the remaining needed funds.

This green energy project is expected to save up to $4,700 annually in electricity costs and reduce GHG emissions by up to 43 tonnes.
