Abandoned vehicle hit by train early Tuesday morning

Jun 23, 2020 | 6:58 AM

MEDICINE HAT — An SUV was damaged beyond repair after it was hit by a train in an open field near the Goodyear plant this morning.

No one was in the vehicle when it was hit by a CP train just before 2 a.m., and a search of the area failed to find anyone.

City police say the vehicle had not been reported as stolen.

Why the vehicle was left on the tracks is now a matter for investigators with the Canadian Pacific Police Service to determine.

Pedestrians and motorists are reminded it’s an offence to operate a motor vehicle on park land contrary to a Medicine Hat municipal bylaw.

It’s also illegal to enter railway property as specified under the Railway Safety Act and the Petty Trespass Act.
