UPDATE: RCMP confirm discovery of child’s body along St. Mary River

WOOLFORD PROV. PARK, AB – UPDATE: The RCMP have confirmed that a child has died after going missing from Woolford Provincial Park on Saturday.

Officials say on June 20 at around 5:30 p.m., the Cardston RCMP detachment responded to a report of a missing four-year-old child at the park, which is located in Cardston County.

With the assistance of Lethbridge Search and Rescue, RCMP Police Dog Services and Air Services, as well as a number of volunteers, RCMP searched throughout the evening and night to locate the young child.

On Sunday, June 21, at around 11:30 a.m., as a result of information from a local in the area, RCMP boat operators found the four-year-old child deceased on a sand bar of the St. Mary River, a few kilometres downstream from Woolford Park.

RCMP say the name of the child will not be released, and no further details will be provided.

Details are scarce, but there have been reports of a body being discovered at Woolford Provincial Park.

The park is east of Cardston and situated along the St. Mary River.

According to reports, a four-year-old boy with Autism strayed away from his family at the park on Saturday, June 20.

Unconfirmed reports say a body has been discovered.
