MEDICINE HAT, AB – The final two city spray parks will open this weekend and plans are in place for pools to open in July.

The City of Medicine Hat says spray parks in Ross Glen Towne Centre and Saamis Rotary Park will open Saturday. The washrooms at both locations will be open with safety protocols in place.

Hill Pool, Strathcona Pool and the Family Leisure Centre (FLC) Cenovus Arena and South Country Co-Op Fitness Centre will open on July 6.

Other Family Leisure Centre amenities will reopen in a staggered approach through the last three weeks of July, including Kinsmen Aquatic Park, the gymnasium and the field house.

“Necessary measures need to be in place to ensure all public health guidelines are followed, including physical distancing, so it will look different,” said James Will, general manager for parks and recreation. “Our team is excited about the reopening and look forward to welcoming the community back.”

Will added, “We are still asking anyone who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms to please stay home. Everyone needs to make responsible choices so that we can all enjoy these facilities.”

Park washrooms in high-traffic areas are also reopening this weekend while the city continues to review other amenities, including Crestwood Recreation Centre and Echo Dale swim lake.

Information about registering for swimming lessons, admission and bookings will be available on the City website prior to the reopening of the facilities.
