49 new cases

Zero active cases in Medicine Hat, active cases in the province close in on 500

Alberta confirmed 49 new cases of COVID-19 today, the third time this week that figure has been at or near 50.

Active cases in the province creep closer to 500, rising by three today to 489. There are a total of 7,579 cases in Alberta.

Medicine Hat is showing zero active cases on the geospatial map that was updated later on Thursday. All 36 cases in the city are considered recovered.

In Brooks, there are two active cases, an increase of one. That city has 1,108 recovered cases and nine deaths. The total number of cases there is 1,119

The South Zone has 1,287 confirmed cases – 30 active, 1,247 recovered and 10 deaths.

There are 6,938 recovered cases in Alberta and there are 34 Albertans in hospital, six of which are in the ICU. One additional death in the province brings that total to 152. There were nearly 8,000 tests completed in Alberta over the past 24 hours.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw will provide an in-person update on Friday.

On May 11, the province began putting a more detailed chart online for each zone.

Cypress County is showing zero active cases and 21 recovered, while the County of Newell is showing zero active cases and 20 recovered.

The County of Forty Mile and Municipal District of Taber each have two confirmed cases both listed as recovered.

Special Areas No. 2 has no cases on the map. There was previously one recovered case and one death attributed to the region.

The City of Lethbridge has 36 cases, seven listed as active and 29 recovered. Lethbridge County has three cases currently considered active.
