1933 ~ Kay Anne Smith ~ 2020

Kay Anne Smith (nee Oliver), beloved wife of Robert “Bob”, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the age of 86 at Sunnyview Long Term Care.

Kay was born in Rivers, Manitoba to Clare and Anne Oliver. She grew up on the farm in Oberon and attended Brandon College and University of Manitoba to obtain her education degrees. Kay taught school in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, meeting Bob while in Churchill. They were married on August 20, 1960 and welcomed their first child, Kelley before moving to Ralston and eventually Medicine Hat. Two more children, Tracey and Jeff were born in Medicine Hat. Kay taught in the Medicine Hat School District and went on to obtain a masters degree in special education from Gonzaga University. She retired in 1990, and together with Bob, enjoyed travelling the world and touring with the RV. Kay was very involved in her children’s activities while they were growing up and loved being a grandmother. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, photography, scrapbooking and golf (even achieving a hole-in-one!).

Kay’s memory will be cherished by her husband, Bob, of nearly 60 years; her three children Kelley (Dayle) Krahn of Ladner, B.C., Tracey (Harry) Numrich of Red Deer, AB and Jeff Smith (Shane Hammel) of Saskatoon, SK; four grandchildren Adam (Melissa) Krahn of Surrey, BC, Morgan Krahn of New Westminster, BC, Paul (fiancée Robyn Frers) Numrich of Coquitlam, BC, Grant Numrich of Red Deer, AB. Also surviving are her brother, Terry (Florence) Oliver of Minnedosa, MB, brothers-in-law Eldon (Sheila) Smith of Calgary, AB, and Glen Smith of Hammonds Plains, NS, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held for immediate family only (due to COVID-19 restrictions) in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to remotely attend the funeral service through live streaming on the Facebook page of Pattison Funeral Home and Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in the memory of Kay to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories or a charity of one’s choice.
