Local families participate in porch portrait initiative

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Redcliff photographer is bringing light to families, healthcare workers, and hospital patients with porch portraits.

The trend is where photos are taken of people from afar like on a front step for physical distancing purposes.

Bradley East is taking the photos free of charge but is accepting donations for the Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation.

The healthcare hero fund will support healthcare workers during this time by purchasing gift cards to the cafeteria and Tim Hortons.

Patients will also benefit from things to brighten their days like flowers and puzzles.

East says the Health Foundation is also investing in portable cellphones for patients so they can connect with loved ones.

He adds the porch portraits are an exciting moment in the day that people can look forward to.

“Just hearing people’s stories and seeing how the community is coming together and by not being together really. Showing our support has been amazing and giving these people, these families an opportunity to get dressed up, get out of our sweatpants or pyjamas and come outside and do a cool photo it brightens up their day and there are so many kids involved too and they’re so happy to have their photo done.”

East has taken photos of 20 families so far and is looking to do 30 more.

If you would like your photo taken later this week in Medicine Hat and Redcliff you can book a session with East.
