Future of victims’ fund to be known, “in days to come,” says Justice Minister
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The future of a fund which benefits victims of crime in the province as well as community and police-based support services for them will be known shortly, says Alberta’s justice minister.
Minister Doug Schweitzer said Monday the province is, “continuing to work with stakeholders on the future of the Victims of Crime Fund. We’re engaged with stakeholders right now and you’ll hear more announcements on that in the days to come.”
Last week’s provincial budget outlined that the financial benefit program from the fund, which provided direct support to victims of violent crime recover, would be replaced by service-based programming.
Asked about the dismantling of the program, Schweitzer said, “stay tuned for more details about the future of the Victims of Crime Fund.
