1921 ~ 2020
Emma Haag passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at the age of 98 years. She was ready to join her husband, family and friends in Heaven. Emma is survived by her two sons, Gordon (Bev), grandchildren, Cara (Cam), Michelle, Greg (Jolene) and great-grandchildren, Skylar, Reece, Makayla and Hayden; Allan (Candi); grandchildren, Gordon and Wendy and great-grandchildren, Cody and Kyra as well as her sister, Mary Fischer. Emma was predeceased by her husband, Elmer; parents, Nathaniel and Bertha Boettiger; brothers, Fred (Helen), John (Elsie), Bill (Florence); sisters, Amelia (Emil) Christmann and Ruth (Fred) Filago. She was born and raised on a farm east of Schuler. After her schooling at the Surprise School, she worked as a waitress in Medicine Hat. She married Elmer Haag of Hilda in 1944, and settled into the life of a farm wife. She was proud of her enormous garden and large flock of chickens. After selling the farm, she and Elmer moved to Medicine Hast where her gardening skills knew no limit. When the love of her life passed, Emma moved to South Country Village where she enjoyed many happy years. She strongly encouraged and supported her son’s education. After they left home and were married, Emma enjoyed her grandchildren and then her great-grandchildren. She loved to spend time with her young family members and was very pleased to visit with all children especially great-nieces and nephews. She always had a special treat for them when they came to visit. Emma was well known for her cooking and baking skills. No one ever left her table hungry. She really enjoyed the opportunity to prepare holiday feasts.. the more the merrier! Emma had many friends from the community and her church. She loved her church and attended services regularly until she lost her sight and hearing. Due to these handicaps, Emma was very happy when the Pastor stopped by for a visit. A Celebration of Emma’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Emma’s name may be made directly to the charity of one’s choice.
