Support during the cold snap

MEDICINE HAT, AB – There was a line of about 25 people at The Mustard Seed when their doors opened at eight this morning.

The centre has been in Medicine Hat for three months.

The Mustard Seed sees about 60-70 people come through their doors on a regular day.

According to Program Manager Sydney Ratzlaff, those numbers are comparable to a cold day, being people are learning more about their services.

People have also been picking up warm clothing at the centre.

“More and more people are coming in and are needing the shelter, needing a place to get away from the cold. We’ve had people come in that have had frostbite because of the cold temperatures, so those that are coming in truly need the services,” Ratzlaff said.

The Mustard Seed offers breakfast six days a week Monday to Saturday between 8 am-11 at the Champion Centre location. The centre is then open until 1 O’clock.

She says the Mustard Seed location on Allowance Avenue is open Sundays from 2 pm-4 and Thursdays 10 am-noon.

Ratzlaff adds, they are quite low on mittens and the community is welcome to donate more mitts, socks, and toques to The Mustard Seed.
