MEDICINE HAT, AB — As Christmas trees start coming down from living rooms across Medicine Hat, the city’s environmental utilities department is once again reminding residents they have options to recycle their trees

Hatters who put up a non-artificial Christmas tree this year are able to recycle the tree at three locations this year.

Drop-off locations have been set up at the Kipling Street Bottle Depot (240 Kipling Street Southeast), Shamrock Bottle Depot (172 Altawana Drive NE), and in the southwest corner of the Medicine Hat Mall.

If you are recycling the tree, the city asks that you remove all tree stands, plastic bags, tinsel and decorations, otherwise the tree cannot be recycled.

Tree recycling drop-off will be available until January 31.

The city is asking residents to not leave their tree in the alley, as they will not be picked up by solid waste collection. They’re also asking to not throw the trees into the coulees or leave them on the side of the road.
