Rubble the dog up for adoption

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Rubble has come a long away since being abandoned in September.

He along with his brother Petey were dropped off at Pet Park Boarding but the owner never came back for them. Both were in rough shape.

Pet Park’s Manager Helen Sanderson says Rubble’s brother Petey came in and his face was all ripped up and he had been in a dog fight. She says somebody also cut Rubble’s ears off at some point in his life.

Worried about their fate, Sanderson knew she had to do something to give them a second chance.

“The Alberta SPCA and everyone had to make a decision and unfortunately everyone’s decision was because of their breed and being hard to place they were probably going to euthanize them. So I ended up saying I will adopt the dogs myself,” said Sanderson.

Their injuries required extensive medical care.

$4,000 was raised by residents through a go fund me campaign and bottle collection to help cover the vet bills.

Petey has since been adopted, while 7-year-old Rubble is still looking for his perfect forever home.

Sanderson says, “He’s on pain meds he had his leg broken at some point in his life and never fixed so his one back leg is kind of gibbled, there’s nothing they can do. But unfortunately, it has led to some arthritis so he is going to be on supplements or pain meds for the rest of his life. Rubble has had a bunch of teeth pulled so he’s going to need his teeth brushed. That little extra gentle care.”

“And if there are children in the home, we want kids who are dog smart. We don’t want anyone pushing on his back end.”

The Southern Alberta Humane Society is overseeing rubble’s adoption and is being very selective when it comes to finding a suitable home.

President De Seaton says, “We have very strict stipulations for Rubble because we want to set him up to succeed, not fail. So we’re going to be very careful who gets our boy.”

Seaton feels a couple or even a single person with lots of time to devote to rubble would be the best. “Because all he has is love to give and he just deserves the best at this point in his life and we’re going to make sure that’s what he gets.”
