TABER, AB – Police in Taber apprehended a man allegedly connected to incidents across the province.

On Friday, December 20, shortly after 9:00 p.m. the TPS (Taber Police Service) responded to a report of a theft from a motor vehicle in the Walmart parking lot.

They said a suspect was seen leaving the area prior to the theft being reported. According to police, the suspect was seen on surveillance footage but was not known to TPS at the time.

Two days later, on December 22 at around 1:00 a.m., TPS were investigating an unrelated incident at a hotel in the town. While at the hotel, officers noticed a man who matched the description of the suspect from the earlier incident at Walmart. Following a short foot chase and struggle, the man was taken into custody by the TPS.

Police searched the suspect and his hotel room. They said they found crystal meth, stolen property, drug trafficking related items and break & enter tools.

In a statement, TPS said it was determined that the suspect had no ties to Taber and “was here to undertake criminal activities and victimize our community.”

The investigation found that the man was wanted on multiple arrest warrants for firearms and weapons-related offences out of Sundre, Alberta. The suspect was also found to be in breach of recognizance conditions stemming from a January 209 charge of conspiracy to commit murder out of the Didsbury, Alberta area.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Austin Cody Jay Graham of Caroline, Alberta. He was charged with theft under $5,000, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer, personation with intent to avoid arrest, possession of break in instruments and failure to comply with conditions of a recognizance.

Graham was remanded in custody to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Monday, December 23.
