Hilda Minnie Eslinger 1933 - 2017

Hilda Eslinger of Medicine Hat was promoted to glory at Riverview Care Centre on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at the age of 83 years. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Heather (Gary) Wright, Hope (Kim) Schick and Heidi (Rob) Mitchell all of Medicine Hat; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Melanie) Wutzke, Adam Wutzke, Joshua Wutzke, Dana Wright (Luke Gorny), Christina (Lane) Maier, Michelle Schick, David Cameron and Dylan Cameron; four great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Westen, Carver and Case; one brother-in-law, Ed Sturm and one sister-in-law Arlene Scherer as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by the Eslinger family. She was predeceased her husband Ted; three brothers, Albert (Lorraine), Ken (Doris), Dick Scherer; five sisters, Alice (Reinhold) Scherer, Mary (Andy) Stapleton, Ida (Hank) Stapleton, Maggie (Frank) Stapleton and Ruth Sturm.
Hilda was born on the family farm in Fox Valley. Her family moved to Medicine Hat when she was a young girl. She worked at Hycroft China until 1964 when she moved to Burstall with Harold Schmidt and their daughters. In Burstall, Hilda was very active with the Hope Evangelical Church and Ladies Auxillary. In 1978, she married Ted Eslinger. She returned to Medicine Hat in 1983 which started her new career as a child caregiver for many families. At this time, she also returned to the Salvation Army as a soldier. She was actively involved in Sunday school, band, Women’s ministry, fundraising for missionaries and bell ringer for the Salvation Army Christmas kettle campaign. Hilda loved going for coffee, working in her flower beds, playing Chinese checkers and cooking strudels with her grand children, road trips and exotic travel.
Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Sunday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. or at the church on Monday from 12 noon to 12:55 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Salvation Army Church (164 Stratton Way SE) on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Major Murray Jaster officiating. A private family interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
