Mr. William “Bill” Gordon Brodie passed away on Wednesday April 5, 2017, at the age of 74 years, beloved husband of Elaine Brodie of Burstall, Saskatchewan. He also leaves to cherish his memory four sons, Shawn (Sherry), Shane (Gayle), Mike (Dianne), and Brendan (Deanna); his grandchildren, Keanna; Brooke; Dusten and his children, Alaura, William and Paige; Bryce (Sara) and their daughter Bella; Ben (Leah) and their children Finn and Isla; Jeana; Alison; Jordan; Greyson and Charlie; his brother, Dennis (Valerie); his sister Judith Dirk; brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Gordon and Elma Brodie and two brothers, Bob and Rick. Bill was born in Empress on August 27, 1942. He was the first son of Gordon and Elma Brodie. Bill grew up with his sister and three brothers helping their parents with the family grocery store. As the favourite son, Bill’s role in the store grew as he got to tar the roof all by himself every year. At age 17, Bill took a shine to a local girl and went to great lengths trying to outwit his future father-in-law by leaving love letters under rocks in the pasture. The relationship blossomed and marriage followed in November of 1964. Settling in Burstall, three boys in four years kept his career and home life very busy. Bill completed his power engineering degree through correspondence after work and after spending his evenings with his wife and kids. Bill loved coaching his boys in all sports they pursued. After a 10 year break, Bill was blessed with his golden child and got to do everything all over again. Bill loved nothing more than watching his boys grow up and pursue their own lives including education, work, marriage and finally his beautiful grandchildren. Bill was very involved with his church, his part time job cleaning the rink, and his community where he served on town council for several years. After working for 35 years at the gas plant, Bill remained active in his retirement. He enjoyed going to the gym, curling, golfing and maintaining his vital role on the Old Farts bowling team. Bill and Elaine’s retirement travels took them across Canada and throughout the USA. Other vacation highlights were visiting their boys wherever they were, including Hawaii, South Korea, Thailand, Calgary and Coaldale. Reading at the speed of light, Bill was a book a night reader and always enjoyed his favourite authors’ new books. Bill, or G.G. as he was affectionately known, will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul. He drove around his community with a smile on his face and always took a genuine interest in his friends and neighbours. Family always came first with Bill and nothing made him happier than when his boys and their families came home. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. Family and friends will gather for prayers at the Burstall Community Hall (951 Railway Ave) on Monday, April 10th at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at the Burstall Community Hall on Tuesday April 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Hoang Nguyen officiating. Private family interment will take place at the Burstall Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Burstall Community Hall Building Project.
