Harry Koch of Medicine Hat passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017, at the age of 79 years, beloved husband of Jeannette Zollner, husband of the late Mona Koch. He also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Mario (Barbara Anne), Marcel (Dawn) and Darrell (Connie); Jeannette’s children, Pam Penella and Penita (Noel) Schnell; his grandchildren, Lindsay (Waylon) and their children, Marek and Maddox; Patrick; Adrian (Sarah) and their son, Benjamin; Nathan; Keeley; Derek; Jordan and her son Koven; Shawn; Tyler; Jessica; and Karli; his brothers, Edwin, Tony and Alvin (Rosemary); his sisters, Margaret (Allan) Brause and Georgina Schneider as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Katherine Koch and his first wife, Mona on February 24, 2010.
Harry was born and raised in the Richmound area, and lived there with his wife Mona until retiring to Medicine Hat. He was a farmer all of his life, starting out with his brother Ed and building up an operation that was eventually taken over by ‘the boys’. He was an active member of the community, serving on many boards, and he spent countless hours volunteering wherever help was needed. He loved food – especially family gatherings around the table. And he loved music. He was an accomplished accordion player and had a voice to match his playing ability. He achieved a lifelong dream of recording his music as ‘Harry ‘n Jen’, who were also known as ‘Dah Bucketzz’ when they performed at senior homes across the city. He loved to travel with the 5th wheel, especially to perform at the Cowboy Poetry gatherings. Harry’s family and friends will all miss the weekly phone calls that he would make just to see what everyone was up to!
Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. or at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Philip Le and Fr. James Hagel concelebrants.
