We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother Maggie Hasper at the age of 87 years. Maggie was born January 1, 1930, in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan and passed away peacefully in Medicine Hat at her home in Valleyview Age Care Center on November 24, 2017. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Floyd (Phyllis) Aberle and Darlene Aberle; two grandchildren, Dennis (Alison) and Karen (Anthony) and two great grandchildren, Nicole and Jacob, all of Calgary. She is also survived by ten brothers and sisters and many extended family members. Maggie was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Aberle in September of 1967; her brother, Leo, in April of 2001; her son, Barry, in February of 2005; and her second husband, Mel Hasper in June of 2007.
Maggie was the eldest of twelve children born to Erasmus and Katherine Lanz. She was raised in the Schuler area and attended Livona School. Maggie married Ralph on November 24, 1947, in St. Patrick’s Church in Medicine Hat. Maggie and Ralph farmed in the Schuler area for three years and then moved to Medicine Hat where they raised their three children. Maggie was a kind, hardworking woman, whose family and the church meant the world to her. She worked for many years as a waitress in various cafes and restaurants in Medicine Hat; the Club Café, the City Café and the Pink Lantern, to name a few. Maggie will be remembered for her quick and courteous service to all her regular guests. After marrying Mel, on February 20, 1971, Maggie grew to love camping and they spent many great weekends and vacations camping in their fifth wheel trailer as well as spending quality time with family and friends, especially Lloyd and Rosetta Brosnikoff, who were both family and friends. Maggie’s family would like to thank the staff at Valleyview for the excellent care given while she was a resident there. A special thank you to Marlene Bosch and to Lloyd and Rosetta for the love and friendship they have shown Maggie over the years.
Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. with Fr. Tomy Manjaly celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
