July 21, 1916 – January 12, 2018
Ralph Dillman, age 101, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018 at the St. Joseph’s Home in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Ralph was predeceased 4 short months ago by Elizabeth, his wife of 70 years. He is survived and loved by his children; Rose Marie (Allan) Jones, James (Sandra), Philip (Karen), and Thomas; his grandchildren, Sherry (Blair), Laura (Matt), Martha (Dennis), Aaron (Lindsey), Cori Lynn and great grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle, Chris, Liam, Carmen, Nina, Sydney, Bailee, Riane, and Taylor will also lovingly remember him. He is also survived by a brother Adam and his sisters Katherine and Millie. Ralph was the second oldest of eleven children in the Anton and Mary Dillman family. Over the years he was predeceased by both of his parents, brothers; Tony, George, Mike, and sisters; Monica, Annie, Barbara, and Rose. Ralph farmed at Portreeve, Saskatchewan until 1979 when he and Elizabeth retired and moved to Medicine Hat. All of his life he enjoyed the company of people. While still on the farm daily trips were made to town to pick up the mail and stop at Jack’s garage to visit whomever was there. During retirement in Medicine Hat the visiting continued, most often with neighbours over the fence but sometimes just with people walking by. Visits from family were cherished and extended stays were encouraged. In 2013, both Ralph and Elizabeth moved from their house in Crescent Heights to the South Country Village Care complex in Medicine Hat. Here he resided until poor health forced a brief palliative stay at St. Joseph’s Home where he passed away. Last but not least, special thanks needs to be given to staff at Haven Care Centre (South Country Village) and St. Joseph’s Home for the compassion shown and the impeccable care given. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:25 a.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. John Maes celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Haven Care Center (South Country Village), 1720 Bell St. SW, T1A 5E9 or Carmel Hospice (St. Joseph’s Home) c/o 156 – 3 St. NE, Medicine Hat, T1A 5M1.
