With profound sorrow we announce the passing of our dear mother, Edna Kanewischer, on February 9, 2018 – only 5 weeks following the death of her beloved husband and best friend, Don. She died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, and is now with her Lord and Saviour, rejoicing with her sweet husband in their heavenly home. Edna was born in Irvine, Alberta on August 20, 1933. She grew up loving the outdoors which stood her in good stead in later years. In 1952, she married Don Kanewischer and together they farmed in the Hilda area. As business partner, Edna was involved in all aspects of the operation, from the financial to the daily hands-on work of farm life – including driving tractor and hauling grain. She was a strong, independent woman who was very much ahead of her time. Her many talents and interests led Edna to create homes that were not only beautiful, but were warm and welcoming, filled with love and amazing food. Everything she did was done to perfection. Edna was a woman of integrity with a generous spirit and a commitment to her Lord. She truly set an example of a Christ-centered life. Through all of life’s ups and downs, she and her husband of 65 years were inseparable. Edna leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Donna and son, Murry; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Ephraim Haas; as well as many other relatives and friends. Edna is predeceased by husband, Don Kanewischer; sister and brother-in-law, Leah and Herb Ginther; brother and sister-in-law, Reuben and Agnes Bischke; and nephew, Wade Haas. Mom, you will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. The Funeral Service will be held at HILLCREST EVANGELICAL MISSIONARY CHURCH, 3785 – 13 Avenue SE, on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Mark Bolender officiating. A private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Edna’s memory may be made to Whispering Pines Camp, Box 23110, Medicine Hat Mall P.O., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1B 4C7.
