Magdalena “Lena” Schmaltz of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018, at the age of 92 years, beloved wife of the late Peter Schmaltz. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Archie (Shirley) Schmaltz, Ivan Schmaltz (Monica Hazzard), Marlene (Kim) Bohnet, Marvin (Gail) Schmaltz and Peter Schmaltz (Mark); fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; her brothers, Roy Ries and Adam (Lorraine) Ries; her sister, Rose Schneider, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Ries; her husband, Peter Schmaltz on April 5, 1991; her son-in-law, Harry Satzke, and her daughter-in-law, Launie Schmaltz. Lena was born on March 14, 1926, on the farm at Prelate, Saskatchewan where she was raised. On November 27, 1945, Lena married Peter and in November of 1961, they moved into Redcliff. She worked at Wahl’s Greenhouses for over 25 years until retiring. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday evening, at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr.
