Erich Kahle passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Home in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, just over 2 weeks after thoroughly enjoying his 88th birthday with close family. Forever remembering Opa are his children: Andy Kahle and David (Heather) Kahle and their children; Joshua, Elyssa and Matthew as well as grandchildren, Adam and Emily Kadey. Dozens of nieces and nephews, many family members and a host of long time friends survive Erich and will deeply miss him. Opa was born in Gross Oesingen, Saxony, Germany on April 7, 1930 and was the last surviving sibling in his family of 11 children. Erich was predeceased by his wife, Elsie (Oma) on August 31, 2015, and their daughter Christine in 2012, as well as 5 sisters, and 5 brothers. Opa had a rock-solid faith in the Lord Jesus. His unwavering faith was and is an inspiration to all who knew him. Opa enjoyed reading since a young boy and just completed reading Martin Luther’s 300-page biography in his final days. Opa was an excellent cabinetmaker and craftsman graduating 2nd in his class and having completed numerous beautiful projects for St. Paul’s Church and many others. It was such a blessing for Opa to be able to share crisp memories of people, dates and events even from his early childhood right up until his final breath.
The family would like to thank all those friends and family who brightened his final days with visits, laughter, conversation and goodies. The family would also like to thank Dr. Monty and Dr. Josh Foley as well as the staff of St. Joseph’s Home, including the amazing, sweet nurses who provided such loving care since his arrival on March 9. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 515 Sprague Way SE, on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:55 a.m. Erich’s life will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him with a funeral service at ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN CHURCH at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 with Pastor Ken Edel officiating. A Private Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
