Phillip Joseph Wurtz
February 21, 1952 ~ August 2, 2018
After a courageous battle with cancer, Phillip passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Phillip was born near Magrath, Alberta on Old Elm Colony in 1952 to Joseph and Margreath Wurtz and raised on the Bench Colony near Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. After he left home, he enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, combining and long haul truck driving before settling down in Fort McMurray, Alberta where he raised his four children with Debra. After 32 years, he retired from Suncor and moved to Penticton, BC where he met the love of his life, Val in 2006. Phil had a huge heart and his family meant the world to him. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Phillip leaves behind to mourn, his wife, Val Wurtz; his children, Tara (Chad) Mazur, Tabitha (Richard) Dowling, P.J. Wurtz, Joshua Wurtz and his stepsons, Anthony (Terry) Samuelson and Ted Samuelson. His grandchildren, Sage, Julia, Seth, Jade, Anthony, Jared and Brandon will miss their beloved Papa. Phillip will also be deeply missed by his mom, Margreath and siblings, Lydia, Andy, Debra, Isaac, Levi and Christina along with many other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph and sister, Lena. A special thanks to the Medicine Hat Cancer Clinic along with the Palliative Care team at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for their care and compassion.
