Leo Bynum Hill passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018, at the age of 87 years, beloved husband of Marie Hill of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Craig (Theresa) Hill of Surrey, B.C., Bruce (Kathleen) Hill of Medicine Hat, Ron (Laurel) Hill of St. George, Utah, Janet (Robert) Janosch of Medicine Hat, Karyle (Hal) Tagg of Stony Plain, and Karen (Mike) Meldrum of Beaumont; thirty grandchildren; fifty great grandchildren; one brother, Jim (June) Hill of Edmonton; and two sisters, Sandy (Noel) Pilling of Mountainview and Joyce (Russ) Montalbetti of Blairmore. He was predeceased by his parents, Burdett and Jesse Hill, as well as six brothers and sisters. Leo was born on June18, 1931 and raised the second of ten children on a farm near Taber. After completing a two and a half year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Germany, following the second world war, he married and moved to Edmonton where he completed degrees in accounting and hospital administration. In 1971 he moved his family to Medicine Hat where he became CEO of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and oversaw the first expansion. He retired in 1988 and devoted himself to volunteer service. He oversaw humanitarian efforts for his church in Eastern Europe from 1991-1993 following the fall of the Berlin Wall. He served on numerous provincial boards and local committees to improve government and community and initiated events like the Christmas Pageant in Kin Coulee. He spent his life serving his family, his community and his church until his blindness in 2003. His last 15 years were spent in the cherished company of his wife and family. He lived well, laughed often and loved much. Friends can greet the family and express condolences in The Relief Society Room from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Friday. The funeral service will be held in the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (7 Sierra Blvd SW) on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Jordi Mulholland officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
