Marvin Fredrick Nagel
November 4, 1948 ~ August 22, 2018
On Wednesday, August 22, 2018, Marvin Nagel, beloved husband of 46 years, best friend and business partner of Joanne Nagel, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Marvin was born in Eatonia, Saskatchewan where he received his early schooling. In 1963, following the death of his father in a farming accident, he moved with his mother and three younger sisters to Calgary. Marvin was encouraged by his uncle to pursue a career in the trades and he attended SAIT to become a sheet metal mechanic. He worked for various companies in Calgary before moving to Redcliff in 1975, when the opportunity arose to install HVAC systems for Engineered Homes in Medicine Hat. Marvin and Joanne built their dream home in Redcliff and enjoyed many years there where he was involved in the Redcliff Lions Club, Redcliff Curling Club and the Riverview Golf Club. He enjoyed the comradery of the Lions Club (especially the “work parties”) and he formed many life long friends. Marvin and Joanne dove into the business world and established Nagel’s Metal Contractors Ltd. They always felt very fortunate to have had the support of the community and employees that enabled them to build a successful heating and air conditioning business, retiring in 2006. Through this business, Marvin had the opportunity to meet many customers, suppliers and other sub-trades. Marvin enjoyed curling, golfing, motorcycles, winter trips to Arizona, summers at Lake McGregor Country Estates and finally retirement at his home in Sandstone Place, Medicine Hat. For the past 18 months, Marvin’s life was enriched by the companionship of his beloved adopted dog, Milo. He was predeceased by his father, Karl; mother, Gertrude; sister, Judy as well as his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles. Along with his wife, Joanne, left to cherish Marvin’s memory are his sisters, Linda (Les) Collins and Lorraine (Ernie) Messner; mother-in-law, Aurelia Grimes; sisters-in-law, Carolynn (Garry) Drabble, Kathy (Terry) Baker and Tamara (Bruce) Buckwold as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. Ahmad, social worker, Marilyn and the caring, compassionate staff in the Renal Unit. Thanks also to the staff on 5 West for their support in recent months.
