Marlene May Verhegge of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018, at the age of 66 years, at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice. She leaves to cherish her memory her brother Ron (Sheila) Verhegge of Medicine Hat and a special friend Kathy Kirkland-Guin. She was predeceased by her parents, Barbara and Frank Verhegge. Marlene was born on May 8, 1952 in Medicine Hat where she was raised and graduated from Medicine Hat High School. She then began her career in banking at the Royal Bank Main Branch, where she worked her entire career until retiring. Marlene was a sports fan but particularly an avid Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs fan; and she had a great love for animals. Diagnosed with MS in her early 20’s, she wouldn’t let it slow her down. She was resilient and lived independently. She enjoyed many outings, especially the Casino with Kathy, who was a dedicated and loyal friend. Marlene’s family would like to recognize and acknowledge the incredible staff at St. Joseph’s Home for their kindness, concern, great care and high level of professionalism. We, Ron and Sheila can’t thank them enough for taking care of our sister/sister-in-law. A private family graveside service was held yesterday at Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 101 – 1201 Kingsway Ave SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 2Y2.
