June 28, 1939 ~ November 28, 2018
Mr. Alphonse (Pete) Christian Massine, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Patricia Massine, passed away at the St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the age of 79 years. Left to cherish Al’s memory are his daughters, Terry and Vicki (Kirk); sons, Kelly (Rose) and Michael (Wendy); seven grandchildren and three precious great-grandchildren. Al is also survived by three sisters and their families, Matilda, Helen and Marlene. He was predeceased by his parents as well as numerous in-laws and other extended family. Al was born in Dilke, Saskatchewan on June 28, 1939. He was raised and received his education in both Medicine Hat and Redcliff. Al served a number of years with the Canadian Forces PPCLI. Following his service, he worked for DOM Glass, then Canadian Western Power and Fuel before finishing his career with the City of Medicine Hat Gas Utility where he will forever be fondly remembered as “Pilot Pete”. He was 65 when he retired from the City and actively pursued some of his other interests which included hunting, fishing, Old Time Hockey and volunteerism at the Legion. Al was heavily involved in the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #6 in Redcliff. He was a Lifetime Member and felt privileged to have served multiple terms as their President. His love for the community also saw him volunteering time to the youth, coaching local ball and hockey teams. A humble man, Al was never one to complain and few people would have known that he struggled with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease over the last 19 years of his life. The family wish to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Doctor’s, Nurses and staff at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for their care over the years and to those at the St. Joseph’s Home-Carmel Hospice for their loving care and support through Al’s final days.
