Jeanne Barbara Hunter of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 11, 2019, at the age of 88 years, beloved wife of the late James Hunter. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Kim (Rick) McClymont and Jan Wigle all of Medicine Hat; four grandchildren, Bjorn Bryhn (Andrea David), Jeanne (Waylon) Smith, Rebecca McClymont (Jon Mitchell), Nicolas Wigle (Keanna Bertin); three great grandchildren, Paisley and Bronson Smith and Oliver Wigle; her sister Doreen Atkinson and her sister-in-law Margaret Taylor, both of Liverpool, England, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Rebecca Taylor; her husband, James Hunter; her son-in-law, Rick Wigle; and seven brothers and sisters. Jeanne was born on May 23, 1930 in Liverpool, England where she was the third youngest of nine siblings. During the war, Jeanne spent her school years in and out of bomb shelters. Jeanne met Jimmy at the age of 14 years where they worked together and they married 10 years later, on July 24, 1954. In 1968, they came to Canada with their young daughters, settling in Winnipeg. Jeanne began working at the King Edward Hospital as a nurse’s aid and continued working there until retiring in the early 1990’s. After retiring, Jeanne and Jimmy moved to Medicine Hat to be closer to family. Jeanne’s greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in her home and garden and she enjoyed singing and travelling. She was strong, loving, generous and had a great sense of humour. Jeanne suffered from Alzheimer’s requiring her to be in care for the last 5 years, first at River Ridge and lately at Sunnyview nursing homes. Her family is grateful for the excellent and compassionate care that she received at both places and also to the staff at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital 4W. The family will be celebrating Jeanne’s life in a private ceremony.
