Mrs. Anna “Anne” Toews of Swift Current, beloved wife of the late Peter E. Toews, passed away on Thursday, March 21st, 2019 at the age of 98 years. Anne leaves to cherish her memory three sons, George “Al” (Marilee) Toews, Raymond (Robyn) Toews and Darwyn (Debbie) Toews; two daughters, Pauline (Cliff) Fehr and Arlene (Dennis) Unvoas; 12 grandchildren, Nadawn (Brent) Fraser, Tori (Jane) Creighton, Scott (Joanne) Fehr, Trent (Erin) Fehr, Trisha (Daniel) O’Neill, Jode Toews, Desiree Unvoas (Nick Wiebe), Cody (Lorinda) Unvoas, Jesse Unvoas, Chris (Krista) Toews, Ashley (Anton) Deschambault and Jordan Toews; 17 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Anne was predeceased by her husband, Peter Toews; her daughter, Evelyn (Harold) Creighton; one grandchild, Teli Creighton; her parents, Abram and Sarah Wiens; and her 14 brothers and sisters. Grossmum was born in 1920 on a farm south of Swift Current. She married Peter E. Toews on June 30th, 1940. They bought land from the Hudson Bay Company that the family referred to as “The Coulee”. They moved to Wymark in 1949. When finances were tight, Grandpa and Grossmum went to work at a turkey processing plant, SC Produce. Anne was busy with the Mission Club at the church and was always sewing quilts and layettes for missions. Her garden was plentiful and her flowers were beautiful. Anne stayed in Wymark until 1979 when she moved to Fort Vermilion, Alberta where 3 of the kids lived. She stayed there for 2 years then moved back to Swift Current. Travelling was a passion for Grossmum; she took many bus tours with friends. Anne was always fair but tough, misbehaving was quickly met with results. Grossmum was an avid game player and loved to play Skipbo or Uno with her grand kids and always had a “knack” for winning. In her later years she was well cared for at the Herbert Manor and The Meadows and the family would like to thank them for their kindness. The Funeral Service was held at the Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current, Saskatchewan on Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. Interment took place on Thursday, March 28th, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Anne’s memory may be made to the Hospital Chaplaincy Program, c/o Zion Mennonite Church, 78 – 6th Avenue NE, Swift Current, SK S9H 2L7.
