Kenneth Dale Oliphant ‘Dale’
December 9, 1936 ~ June 19, 2019
Words cannot express our profound sadness as we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Dale Oliphant, who lost his short but courageous battle with cancer at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, June 19th, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Left to grieve is the love of Dale’s life – his wife of 61 years, Madeleine; his children, Cory (Karla) Oliphant, Susan (Nyles) Lindsay and Karri (Trent) Kurucz; grandchildren, Kristy (Jeff) Dubbeldam, Colton (Taylor) Quast, Walker Kurucz, Kelley Lindsay-Kenyon, Brad and Kim Lindsay and great- grandchildren, Seth, Kate, Reid and Jane Dubbeldam. Sharing this grief is a number of extended family and longtime friends. Dale is predeceased by his parents, George and Marie as well as his brothers, David and Donald.
Dale was born in Saskatchewan and grew up in Medicine Hat, AB. He attended the University of British Columbia, transferring to the University of Alberta, where he received his teaching degree. Dale began his teaching career at Crescent Heights High School. He was a teacher who treated all students with dignity and respect and it was his great honor to be asked to deliver the Commencement address to the High School graduating class.
Always looking for a new challenge, Dale changed careers and started in the insurance business where he served the community of Medicine Hat with sound advice and peace of mind.
Dale and Madeleine made their home in Medicine Hat and raised their three children. He was a respected community member involved in the Kinsmen Club, K-40 Club, Connaught Golf Club and was an avid bowler – achieving a score of 420 in the 5 pin Western Canadian Championships in Saskatoon, SK, surpassing the record set in 1959.
Dale thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and always had a joke to tell and a ready laugh. He enjoyed dancing with Madeleine and their favorite music was George Shearing. Dale always made people feel at ease, comfortable and accepted. He enjoyed his grand-cats and the antics of the visiting Missy cat.
Dale was the best husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend we could ask for. He was a good man who exemplified strength, courage, generosity, integrity and a strong work ethic. Above all Dale was a family man who taught us how to look after one another and always be there for each other. We love you with all our hearts and will miss you forever.
It was at Dale’s request that there be no formal funeral service. A small family gathering was held on June 23, 2019.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Emergency Staff, Doctors and Nurses of 5-West and the Marjery E. Yuill Cancer Centre at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion during his battle with cancer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dale’s name may be made directly to the Margery E.
