Donald “Don” Barry Kay passed away on Monday, September 30th, 2019 at the age of 74 years. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Cheryl; children, Sherri (Alex) Metz, Harvey (Shelly) Kay, and Valerie (Leon) Martineau; grandchildren, Damien, Rachel, Karmyn, Darian (Brett), and Jacey; great grand son, Kaide; sister, Vicki (Reed) Perrin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Marjorie Kay; brother, Howard; and sisters, Joy, Beth, and Diane. Born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan on March 7th, 1945, the third child of six children. He grew up southwest of Maple Creek where he attended school. As a youth he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and selling rabbits for spending money and reading novels and comics. He took a mechanic course in Edmonton and worked various jobs around Maple Creek. Farming was his occupation for most of his life. He married Cheryl Perrin in 1966. They had three children, Sherri, Harvey and Valerie. They lived at the Perrin homestead until his passing. He enjoyed guns, reloading shells, hunting, gun shows, making sausage and watching wildlife. Even better with friends by his side. He had a great interest in collecting coins from the time he was a young adult which continued throughout his life. He even enjoyed cooking, making homemade soup, chili and numerous other unique specialties that we all enjoyed. John Candy movies, a story from the past or photo albums were highlights of our family gatherings. A highlight was the children in his life, grandchildren and neighbourhood kids. Nothing brought him more joy than seeing them smile and play. His three children have fond memories of talking late at night and patiently waiting for him to finish hauling the bales so that he could raise up the flat deck where they would slide down repeatedly until after dark. Donnie was the favorite person in the room with the kids fighting over sitting on his knee. A private family time of remembrance was held. For those wishing to make a donation in Don’s memory a cheque may be sent to Cypress Credit Union, Box 1060, Maple Creek, SK S0N 1N0 payable to the “Southwest Healthcare Trust” to the direction of the Maple Creek Ambulance Services. Condolences may be sent through www.saamis.com or to condolences@saamis.com subject heading Donald Kay.
