Robert Samuel Westgard of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of MaryAnn Westgard, passed away on Tuesday, October 15th, 2019 at the age of 82 years. To cherish his memory, Bob leaves his children, Robbie (Ken Clow) Westgard, Ruby (Tom) Musselman, Ardis (Jim Fankhanel) Westgard, Nancy (Blaine) McPhee, Karen (Jeff) DeLaney, Bill† (Colleen) Scherbluk, Bob Scherbluk, Kathy Scherbluk, and Tracey (Paul) Avery; eight brothers, two sisters; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Anna Westgard; two brothers; one sister; and MaryAnn’s son. Robert (Bob) was born in the family homestead on February 1, 1937. At a very early age Bob learned how to be responsible. He helped to care for his younger siblings as they all arrived into the world. At 10 years of age, Bob was walking 1 mile to the school to light the fire and warm the school before the teacher and other students arrived and at 12 years of age he was helping neighboring farmers in their fields. He was mature beyond his years! Bob grew into a strong and loving man and married his first wife Marlene and together they had five beautiful daughters. Bob was a kind, caring and compassionate man who always put the needs of others before his own. He was thoughtful and loyal and could see the good in everyone and encouraged others to strive to be their best. Bob was involved in many ministries, two of these were the Bridge of Hope Ministries (which he travelled to India) and Whispering Pines Bible Camp. He was also involved in the Furniture Ministry for ten years. He was a man of faith and his faith in God was strong. Bob was the President of the Road Builders Association and a few of his noted jobs were Kramer Tractor, Magnus Construction and Points North Landing. He had an amazing work ethic and mentored others always. Bob was a fixer of all things and would enjoy helping others if it was needed. He was an intelligent man and could fix anything! Bob’s love of music began at an early age. Through his years he played instruments, sang in various choirs and was a barbershopper! Music was always in his heart. Bob would insert himself into each Community he lived in and he participated in and sat on many Boards and Organizations. In the past 10 years, Bob was a strong and helpful presence in the Community of Chinook Village where he lived with his wife MaryAnn. As we celebrate this beautiful man and the story of his life, we remember the many stories that he told, the laughter and smiles that he brought to the hearts of those around him and the love that always emanated from him.The Funeral Service will be held at HILLCREST EVANGELICAL MISSIONARY CHURCH, 3785 – 13th Avenue SE, on Monday, October 21st, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jamie McDonald and Pastor Lance Duncalfe co-officiating.
