Kenney in Ottawa in search of fair deal from federal government
OTTAWA, ON. — Premier Jason Kenney says there cannot be a strong Canada without a strong Alberta, and it is time for the federal government to act.
The premier spoke to the Canadian Club of Ottawa Monday morning, part of his trip to Ottawa to advocate for a fair deal for the province.
During his speech, Kenney says he plans to ask for multiple requests from the federal government, including $2.4 billion in fiscal stabilization, which he says is owed to the province following the economic downturn which began in 2014.
During his speech, Kenney said initiatives from multiple levels of government has impacted Alberta’s energy industry, citing the passing of Bills C-48 and C-69. He notes other oil and gas producing jurisdictions in the United States, such as Texas and Oklahoma, have not seen economic downturns.
