Man who made multiple bomb threats to Taber sentenced to five years

TABER, AB – A man from Illinois was sentenced to five years in prison, one year of mandatory supervised release, and will have to pay a $3,000 fine.

According to KFVS12 News in Murphysboro, Illinois, Justin R. Bagley plead guilty to 12 counts of disorderly conduct (bomb threat) on Thursday, November 21st.

Taber Police Service reported 10 bomb threats that were made across the city on February 9th, 2019 to schools, a hospital, a bank, the police station, and a store over a 48-hour period.

The calls were traced to Bagley in Elkville, Illinois thanks to assistance from Medicine Hat Police and the Jackson County Sherriff’s Office.

“Bagley used a phone application that allowed him to listen to emergency services radio traffic, and chose Taber at random in the app. It is believed that Bagley received some kind of gratification from hearing the radio traffic responding to the bomb threats he made,” reads a social media post from Taber Police Service.

During the investigation, authorities in Jackson County working with the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois learned that Bagley had also called the World Trade Center in New York and made a bomb threat on January 25th.
