Team USA tops Team Canada Red in wild pre-tournament game

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Team Canada Red and The United States needed a shootout to decide the winner in their pre-tournament exhibition game Thursday night.

Team USA came away with the victory in the shootout, winning 7-6 following a back and forth game at the Canalta Centre.

Dylan Duke and Jack Hughes both scored in the shootout, according to Hockey Canada’s official game summary. Duke had two goals in regulation for Team USA throughout the game.

Dovar Tinling led in scoring for Team Canada Red, notching two goals through the game. Francesco Pinelli and Wyatt Johnson each had one goal and one assist through the game.

Team Canada Red will begin tournament play in Swift Current on Saturday, facing Team Russia at 7 p.m. at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.

Team USA will play Team Czech Republic on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Canalta Centre.

Team Canada Black vs. Team Finland

Team Canada Black held on for a close victory in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan Thursday night.

Shane Wright and Sean Tschigerl scored twice in the first period, while Viljami Marjala had Finland’s lone goal.

Team Canada Black takes on Team Canada White at the Canalta Centre on Saturday. The game begins at 7 p.m.

Team Sweden vs. Team Czech Republic

Team Sweden dominated the Czech Republic in their pre-tournament Thursday night, winning 6-1 in Brooks.

Oskar Jellvik, Marcus Limpar Lantz and Theo Jacobsson all scored for Sweden within the first 10 minutes, while Ludwig Persson scored twice, according to the game summary.

Sweden plays Finland on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Swift Current to begin the tournament.

Team Russia vs. Team Canada White

Team Russia scored four times in the third period to come away with a 4-2 victory over Team Canada White in Swift Current Thursday night.

Artem Svishchev and Gleb Ivanov scored one minute apart to give Russia the lead, while Vsevolod Gaidamak and Matvei Nadvorniy both scored for Russia during the game.

Dylan Guenther and Mason McTavish scored for Canada.
