Chamber hosting local candidates in election forum tonight

Oct 2, 2019 | 2:35 PM

Medicine Hat, AB – While many of the party leaders will be taking part in the first French-language debate on the national stage tonight, candidates here in the Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner riding will be at the Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce election forum.

The forum takes place tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Eresman Theatre at the Medicine Hat College.

CHAT News Today will be broadcasting a live stream of the forum.

The chamber has confirmed that attendees will be Glen Motz (Conservative Party of Canada), Andrew Nelson (People’s Party of Canada), Elizabeth Thomson (NDP), and Harris Kirshenbaum (Liberal Party of Canada).

Independent candidate Dave Phillips will also take part.

According to the Chamber, Green Party Candidate Shannon Hawthorne declined the invitation.

President of the Chamber, Sarah MacKenzie, says that the questions asked will be based on the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s “Vote Prosperity Platform”.

As well there will be a chance for people to have their questions heard.

“While you’re at the forum, write a question down. We’ll have people down there to hand out cards and write down your question. Not everybody’s question is going to be asked, just based off time but we’d like to do as much as we can,” MacKenzie said.

There will also be an opportunity to meet the candidates 30 minutes before the forum and 30 minutes after.
