‘It’s really nice’: Emeralds baseball creating opportunities for out-of-town players

MEDICINE HAT, AB — It’s the inaugural season for the Medicine Hat Emeralds youth baseball program, and it’s already leaving a positive impact in communities outside of the city.

The U12 and U14 teams are welcoming several players from the surrounding area into Swanny’s Baseball and Training complex.

Aidan Maxwell lives in Brooks, and is making the hour-long commute twice a week for Emeralds practice with the U14’s. The 13-year-old says although it’s a hefty travel and time commitment, it’s worth it to get quality training for his favorite sport.

Mitch Bach from CHAT Sports caught up with Maxwell to hear more about the opportunity the Emeralds offer and the level of training he’s received in the first few weeks of practice.

Plus, Kyle Swannack, the co-owner of Swanny’s who created the Emeralds, provides further information on the team, and shares his thoughts on having players from outside the community take an interest.
