Søgaard ‘still the same goalie’ following standout rookie campaign

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Mads Søgaard’s name is well-traveled in the Western Hockey League.

It took just one, breakout campaign for the Medicine Hat Tigers netminder to establish himself as one of the league’s best. As a rookie, the 6’7″ Dane racked up a 19-8-2-2 record with a .921 save percentage and 2.64 goals-against average.

Those marks were tops among WHL rookies, earning him a second-round selection to the Ottawa Senators in the NHL Entry Draft.

Søgaard is back in orange and black for 2019-20 after spending two weeks with the Sens at training camp, and says he’s not phased with any added pressure for his sophomore campaign.

Mitch Bach of CHAT Sports spoke to the Tigers starting netminder to hear about his confidence level ahead of the season, and how he can continue posting league-leading numbers.
