Police ask Crescent Heights residents to stay vigilant with increase of property offences

Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Police are warning residents of increased property and vehicle thefts this summer.

They say the warmer summer weather usually leads to more opportunity for thieves.

Although it has increased throughout the city, police say it’s been even more noticeable in the Crescent Heights area.

Especially during late night hours between Thursday and Tuesdays.

Police said in a statement that they will be increasing resources in the area.

Staff Sargent Kelly Fraser is hopeful that people will take the time to be more vigilant in protecting their property.

“Identify the things you care about and don’t make them easily taken.” Fraser said. “I feel like sometimes our messaging becomes redundant maybe and people hear it a lot. So I’m here to say you worked hard for that, you earned the money, you went and bought it. It’s of value to you why should somebody have the opportunity to steal from you when you worked for it.”

Police suspect that most of the thefts are by the same group of people and are asking for anyone with information to contact them at 403-529-8481 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 -222-8477 (TIPS).

Tips can also be submitted through the MHPS app and can be anonymous.
