Community support saves cats at APARC

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A crisis has been averted at the Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre (APARC) after an overwhelming community response.

On Wednesday, APARC put out a public plea for help after an explosion of cat in-takes.

Their numbers of in-shelter cats increased by about 20 percent in a three day span, opening the possibility of euthanizing animals for space for the first time.

However, as of Friday, APARC says it has open kennel space in all areas of the shelter. No euthanasia was needed.

They put out a message, thanking everyone who adopted, donated, and fostered in the community.

More than 10 cats were adopted over the last two days, including multiple kittens.

Adoptions are still open in the shelter. Anyone who is interested in adopting one of APARC’s cats or other animals is encouraged to call their main line at 403-487-5671.
