BRUSSELS — Canada’s women’s basketball team capped a three-game exhibition tour in Belgium with an 87-59 loss to Spain on Sunday.

Miah-Marie Langlois led Canada with 16 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Sami Hill and Ruth Hamblin contributed 10 and eight points respectively, while Kayla Alexander recorded eight rebounds in the loss.

Spain was led by Marta Xargay’s 18 points.

A slow start saw Spain up with an 8-0 lead to start the game. Despite a good effort to bring the lead down to just four points, Canada was unable to pull away with a lead of their own and ended the first quarter down 18-9.

Canada  outscored Spain 23-21 in the second quarter and trailed 39-32 going in to the halftime.

A tough third quarter left Canada down 64-42 against second-ranked Spain, who cruised to victory form there.

Canada is using the games to prepare for a busy summer that will see the team participate in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2019 and Lima 2019 Pan American Games, as well as Olympic qualifying tournaments this fall.
