Local animal foundation look for donations to support surgery

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A local animal organization is asking for the public’s help to save a seven month old dog.

Persian Dreams and Canine Themes took in Denver about a month ago after he was scheduled to be put down because of an injury.

“We heard about Denver and initially he was facing not very good circumstances so we took him on,” says Samantha Lole, president of Persian Dreams. “We’re trying to help him the best we can, try and save his leg and let him live a happy, pain free life.”

They quickly realized Denver had a serious leg injury, and after some tests and consultations with a surgeon, they realized he likely has a serious ligament and muscle tears.

“Denver has a couple of issues, he’s possibly got a cruciate (ligament) tear, he’s probably got a collateral lateral ligament tear in his leg and possibly a meniscus tear,” says Lole.

As a result, he limps and struggles with using his back legs.

The surgery to save his leg will cost roughly $3,000, money the foundation is hoping to raise through a silent auction on their Facebook Page in August.

“We are doing a silent auction on our Facebook page, we’re hoping to do it August 3,” says Lole. “So right now we’re looking for some donations, we’ve already had a couple of awesome ones, a couple of hair salons have donated gift baskets full of shampoos and stuff like that.”

They’re hoping for a good turnout, and in the meantime, Denver has been going through physio and laser surgery, to prevent the worst.

“It may come the point where he may end up losing his leg, we’re hoping that’s not the option, we’ve been doing these little things to try and help him out hoping that will fix it but I guess time will tell and how he heals and that kind of stuff, but it should be a positive outcome, he should get full motion in his leg again and be pain free,” says Lole.

Lole adds Persian dreams is a small foundation, and always looking for support.

“Right now we are desperately looking for foster homes. It’s kitten season so there’s always tons of pregnant cats with kittens coming in, adult cats. We’re always looking for foster homes,” she says.
