MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Police Service deployed the K9 unit Wednesday to arrest a man wanted for a break-in.

On July 3 at approximately 10:00 p.m. police saw the male downtown. When they approached him, he fled on a bicycle carrying a set of golf clubs.

The man got off the bike outside the library, where he raised a golf club to an officer in a striking motion, he then tried to punch an officer in the face.

Following a physical struggled, the K9 unit arrived and PSD Flint was deployed, making contact with the man.

He was taken into custody, and to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, where he continued to be combative and was spitting at the escorting officer.

The man is known to police and has a history of night-time criminal activity.

He’s now in custody on charges including break and enter, breach of existing release conditions, resist arrest, assault with a weapon, assault police and possession of stolen property.

He is now in police holdings, waiting for a judicial interim release hearing.
