MEDICINE HAT, AB — Canadians across the country are celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday Saturday.

Here at home, Medicine Hat and District Canada Day Society hosted a big bash at Kin Coulee Park with fun activities and live music.

This year, Canadian country singer, Jojo Mason joined Hatters in celebrating Canada 150.

Mason said it was a real honour to be asked to play in this city, saying Medicine Hat brings back a lot of memories.

“I used to travel through here every other weekend to visit my grandma,” he said.  “This place means so much to me.  We would always stop at this ice cream stand on the way through right before we stopped at the teepee.”

Mason grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan before moving to Victoria, British Columbia.  He said there is no other place in the world he would rather live.

“It’s a place where everybody is free,” the singer said.  “We accept so many different cultures, and I’m just blessed to be a part of it.”

Mason takes the stage Saturday night at 9:30 pm.
