MEDICINE HAT, AB — The City of Medicine Hat is expected to receive flood mitigation funding from the provincial government on Monday.

According to a news advisory sent on Friday, Environment Minister Shannon Phillips will be in town to make the announcement on Monday, along with Medicine Hat MLA Bob Wanner.

The amount of funding is not known.

Mayor Ted Clugston, Cypress County Reeve Darcy Geigle and Stuart Murray, chair of the South East Alberta Watershed Alliance, are also scheduled to be in attendance.

The announcement comes more than a week following a $13.4 million announcement of flood mitigation funding for the City of Calgary.

Last year, Medicine Hat applied for nearly $7 million in funding from the province to help cover some of the remaining costs for flood mitigation.
