Escaped prisoner has ties to Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, ALTA- One of two prisoners on the run from Edmonton has a criminal history in Medicine Hat.

According to a bulletin from the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) two female prisoners escaped the the Edmonton Institution for Women Monday evening.

At approximately 8:40 p.m., Monday, October 2, 2017, prison officials reported that two of their inmates had jumped the east fence and escaped from the facility, located at 11151 178 St.,” reads the bulletin.

The two prisoners, 23 year old Kelsie Laine Marie Mast and 20 year old Samantha Faye Toope, 20, remain at large as of 1 a.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

“West Division patrol members and the EPS Canine Unit responded to the scene, but were unable to locate the two prisoners,” the bulletin states.

“Both women are violent offenders with a history of weapons offences and should not be approached.”

Mast was one of several people named in a large drug bust in Medicine Hat, back in June of this year.
