MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat SPCA Board of Directors has made some changes following a controversial few months within the organization.

In a private message sent to staff members and posted on Facebook, the current board president said some positions are being switched around.

Since February, the SPCA has faced allegations of a lack of transparency and public accountability.

Some allegations centre around the Shelter Manager, Audrey Becker.

During the SPCA’s Annual General Meeting on March 29, some concerned Hatters tried to ask Becker questions, with no success.

According to the message, Becker has been offered a different position within the organization called the reports coordinator, its unknown what the position entails.

In addition, a different employee has been promoted to a new position called shelter supervisor. She’ll be in charge of the shelters budget, staff and animals.

The message adds a staff meeting will take place on May 3, where there will be updates on new titles and new job descriptions.

The Board of Directors declined to comment on the changes.
