MEDICINE HAT, AB – A 19-year-old woman is facing several drug and weapons charges after an arrest by the Medicine Hat Police Service.

According to police, Emily Hogben was arrested on Sunday.

Police say they recieved a tip from the public about someone trafficking drugs in the Crestwood area and the investigation took several months.

Officers searched a vehicle and seized methamphetamine and cocaine, along with cash, a can of bear spray and two baseball bats. One of which had nails and screws drilled into the end and chains wrapped around it.

“A weapon can be, it can be a lot of different things that would be regular household items or sporting items, but if it’s found in connection with the drugs, and we know that there’s a drug trafficker dealing, that can be considered a weapon,” said S/Sgt. Brian Christmann.

Hogben is facing five charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon.

“The public probably doesn’t understand how much they do help the police,” Christmann added. “We get information coming into us often and it’s often so important in the investigations that we’re conducting.”

Hogben has been remanded into custody. Her first court apperance is on June 12th.
