Condo group calls community meeting over supervised consumption site

MEDICINE HAT, AB. — The Centre View Condo Association is inviting people to a public meeting next week, to talk about the placement of a supervised consumption site in their neighbourhood.

The association says it’s goal is to get the minister of health to put a hold on the site until a proper and transparent consultation process can take place.

In a release, the group lists many concerns about the location of the site, including ” the lack of meaningful conversations or consultations with the neighbours, crime, personal safety, needle debris, drug traffic, intoxicated people congregating in the area, trespassing, reduction of property values and loss of business.”

It’s also concerned there will be an increase in meth use, drug dealers and related violence in the area.

The meeting is planned for next Wednesday night at the Beveridge building downtown, starting at 7 pm
